Scanz AI

Scanz AI is the assistant inside the app. Describe a setup in plain words and it builds the scan, changes the filters, columns and settings of the scan you have open, manages your watchlists, and answers how-to questions about the platform. Nothing changes until you confirm.

Scanz AI is the assistant built into the app. You describe what you’re looking for the way you’d say it to another trader (“gappers under $10 with high volume”, “drop OTC from this scan”, “add relative volume as a column”) and it turns that into a card you can act on: a new scan, a change to the scan you have open, or a change to a watchlist. It also answers questions about the platform itself, like what a filter measures or where a setting lives.

The point isn’t to hand your scans over to a chatbot. It’s to cut out the clicking. If you already know which filters you want, Scanz AI saves you from picking each one, choosing its session and typing its value. If you don’t yet know which filter matches the idea in your head, it shows you the one it picked, and you decide whether that’s what you meant. Every change goes through a confirm step, so nothing in your workspace moves until you say so.

This guide covers who has Scanz AI, where to open it on web, desktop and phone, what it can do (with example prompts), how the action cards and the confirm step work, conversation history, what to do when a reply is slow, and how to reach a person when you need one.

Who Has Scanz AI

Scanz AI is in beta and is being turned on for accounts gradually. There’s nothing to install or switch on yourself. If it’s on for your account you’ll see a Chat tab, with a small “beta” tag, at the top of the left sidebar on the web, and a Scanz AI button in your scanner windows on desktop. If you don’t see either, it hasn’t reached your account yet.

Understanding the Scanz AI Interface

The chat looks the same wherever you open it: a sidebar tab on the web, its own window on desktop, a slide-up sheet on a phone.

The header says Scanz AI. On the right there’s a clock icon for Recent chats, your saved conversations, and once a conversation has started, a + button for New chat. On a phone there’s also a close button.

A new conversation opens on How can I help? with three suggestions you can tap to send: building a scan for stocks up 5% in the last 5 minutes, asking what RVOL means, and finding gappers under $10 with high volume. They show the range well. The first builds something, the second only explains, and the third is the kind of loose trader shorthand the assistant is built to read.

The message box at the bottom says Ask about Scanz…. Press Enter to send, or Shift+Enter for a new line. While the assistant is working, a small pill shows it’s thinking. When it has something for you to act on, the reply includes a card, and the card is where you act.

Where to Open It

On the web

The main way in is the Browse / Chat switch at the top of the left sidebar. Browse is the normal navigation and Chat is Scanz AI. The Chat tab has a light shimmer until you open it for the first time. If a reply finishes while you’re on Browse, a dot appears on the Chat tab so you know there’s something to read. The chat stays in the sidebar while you move around the app. A half-typed message, or a reply that’s still arriving, survives when you move between scanner and ticker pages. Learn → Ask Scanz in the Browse menu also switches you to the Chat tab.

Scanz AI also shows up in a few places where you’re about to build something:

  • The one-time “New: Scanz AI” hint. Until you first open the chat, a hint next to the Chat tab offers three example scans. Tap one and it goes straight to the chat, and a card comes back.
  • An empty scanner. When the Data, Signal or News Scanner has nothing to show yet (you haven’t made a scan of that kind and no pre-built scan is open), the get-started card includes Or start from an example: with example scans for that scanner. Tapping one sends it to Scanz AI.
  • Discover with no matches. If a Discover search finds no template, you’ll see Ask Scanz AI to build ”…” with your search text in it. Tap it and Scanz AI is asked to build that scan for you. See the Discover guide for the template library itself.

On the web, tapping an example or one of these offers sends it right away. You’ve already said what you want, so there’s no extra step.

On desktop

In the desktop app, Scanz AI runs in its own window. Every Data, Signal and News Scanner window has a Scanz AI button (a sparkle icon) in its title bar. Click it and the chat window opens linked to the scan in that window, so a question like “why is this scan so quiet?” is about the scan you were looking at.

The link shows from both sides. The chat window’s header names the linked scan, with a picker if you want to move the link to another scan, or shows No scan attached. On the scanner side, the Scanz AI button lights up in the accent color on whichever window holds the linked scan, and its tooltip reads Scanz AI — chatting about this scan. Since the chat window can sit behind other windows or on another monitor, this is how you tell which scan the conversation is about.

The empty-scanner examples and the Discover offer work on desktop too. They open the chat window with the request typed in but not sent, so you can edit it and press Enter yourself. They never type over a draft you already have.

When Scanz AI creates a scan or a watchlist on desktop, the window that shows it opens or comes forward on the new item.

On a phone

At phone width, a floating sparkle button opens Scanz AI. It sits above the bottom bar on scanner pages and in the bottom-right corner on ticker pages. The chat slides up as a sheet and keeps your conversation when you close and reopen it. If a reply finishes while the sheet is closed, the button is marked until you open it. Cards, confirm dialogs and the support form all work at phone width. The phone scanners also show the open scan’s Exchanges and Type above the results, so you can see (and undo) a change a card made to them. More on the phone layout in the mobile web guide.

What Scanz AI Can See

Scanz AI isn’t working blind. With a scan open, it reads that scan the way the scanner holds it: every filter with its exact column, session, operator and value, the settings above the filter list (markets, security type, date, any watchlist or ticker restriction), and the columns the table shows plus the ones you could add. On desktop it also picks up changes you’ve made in the scanner window, including edits you haven’t saved yet.

It also knows your saved scans by name, your watchlists, and which plan you’re on. That’s why “add a float filter to my gap scan” works, and why it tells you when a market, column or watchlist isn’t included in your plan instead of offering a card that can’t be applied.

This matters more than it sounds. Because the assistant reads each filter exactly as it’s set, an edit like “change the price cap to $20” changes that one value and leaves the rest of the scan as it was. It doesn’t rebuild your other filters from a loose description.

How Action Cards Work

Anything Scanz AI changes comes to you as a card first. The reply explains what it built, and the card lists exactly what would change: the proposed filters, news selections, settings, columns or symbols, each on its own row. Nothing has happened yet at this point.

The confirm step

Each card has a main button that says what it will do, for example Apply 3 filters to open scan, Replace scan with 4 filters, Update Morning Gappers or Create Scan. When the request could also make a new scan instead of changing the open one, there’s a second button, Create as new scan.

Pressing either button opens a confirm dialog that spells the change out. For example, it might say that it adds three conditions to your scan, replaces the current filters, or creates a new scan called “Low-Float Runners” and opens it. Every dialog ends with Nothing is saved without this confirmation. Choose Cancel to back out, or confirm to apply it.

After you confirm, the card changes to show what actually happened, such as Created “Low-Float Runners” with 4 filters, and it won’t offer the same action again, so you can’t add the same filters twice. If only some of the change went through, the card says how many items couldn’t be applied. If the assistant corrects itself and sends a new card, the earlier card can no longer be clicked. Scans and watchlists named in a reply or on a card are links, so you can jump straight to them.

A note on “Replace” vs “Apply.” Applying adds conditions to what’s already there. Replacing swaps the scan’s whole filter list for the proposed one. On the News Scanner, a numeric replace only rebuilds the numeric filters, and the dialog tells you the news selections stay as they are. Read the button before you press it. It’s the quickest way to tell an add from a rebuild.

”Open and change it”

Sometimes a card is for one of your own scans that isn’t the one you have open, for example when you name a different scan, or on Starter, where each scanner keeps one saved scan. Instead of asking you to go open it and ask again, the card says the change is for that scan, which isn’t open, and offers Open and change it. Press it and Scanz AI opens that scan (on desktop it also links the chat window to it). Then the confirm comes up as usual. Where the change replaces part of the scan, the confirm also shows what the scan has now, so you can compare before you agree.

Pre-built scans can’t be edited

Pre-built scans are read-only. If you ask for a change while one is open, the card says That’s a pre-built scan and suggests duplicating it, or opening one of your own scans, so the change has somewhere to go.

What You Can Ask For

Build a new data scan

Describe the setup in plain words and Scanz AI splits it into individual filters, keeping your numbers, timeframes and sessions. It works from any page, not only the Data Scanner. Ask from Market Sessions or a ticker page and the new scan is still created, and the card gives you a way to open it. If you’re on the Signal or News Scanner and ask for a new data scan, it creates a separate data scan and leaves the scan you’re looking at untouched.

“Low-float stocks up 20% today”

“Premarket gappers up 10% on 100K+ volume, price between $1 and $20”

“Stocks trading 3x their normal volume today”

For the full set of filters it can choose from, see the Filter Reference. For how scans work, see the Data Scanner guide.

Change the scan you have open

With your own scan open, ask for the change and Scanz AI proposes it against that scan: add a filter, tighten a value, or replace the set. This works on the Data Scanner and on the Signal Scanner, where it changes the filters of the open signal scan.

“Raise the minimum volume to 500K”

“Only show stocks under $10”

“Make this premarket only”

Scanz AI doesn’t build brand-new signal scans from scratch. Ask it for a signal (“find a ready-made signal for high-of-day breaks”) and it can look up the matching ready-made signal in Discover for you.

Change the scan’s settings

The settings above the filter list are fair game too: markets (exchanges), security type, the date, and a watchlist or ticker restriction. These come as a Scan settings card.

“Just NASDAQ and NYSE, drop OTC”

“Common stock only, no ETFs”

“Run this on yesterday’s session”

“Limit this scan to my Earnings This Week watchlist”

Build or change a news scan

On the News Scanner, or from any other page, Scanz AI can create a news scan with news types, filing types, sources and keywords, or update the selections on the news scan you have open. After an edit, the keyword box shows the new keywords right away.

“FDA news on biotech stocks”

“Analyst upgrades as they happen”

“Add ‘offering’ as a keyword to this scan”

Add or remove columns

Scanz AI can see which columns the open table shows and which ones you could add, and it can add or remove them, on a scan or on the Watchlists table. Ticker is the one column it leaves in place. Columns change what the table shows, not which stocks are in it. That’s the filters’ job.

“Add relative volume and float as columns”

“Remove the exchange column”

Create and edit watchlists

It can create a watchlist from symbols you name, and add symbols to or remove them from a watchlist you already have. The card is titled New watchlist, Add to watchlist or Remove from watchlist. Any symbol it couldn’t find is flagged on the card, and the rest still go through. If a name is already taken, or a list isn’t available on your plan, the card says so. More on lists in the Watchlists guide.

“Make a watchlist called Biotech Runners with MRNA, NVAX and BNTX”

“Add TSLA to my Momentum watchlist”

“Take AAPL off Tech Longs”

Ask how the platform works

Not every question needs a card. Ask what a metric means, how a filter is measured, or where to find something, and Scanz AI answers from Scanz’s own documentation.

“What does RVOL mean?”

“What’s the difference between Percent Change from close and from open?”

“How do I export a scan to CSV?”

Conversations and History

Scanz AI saves your conversations. When you open the chat it picks up your most recent one. Recent chats (the clock icon in the header) lists the others by title, with how long ago each was last used. Click one to switch to it, or use the trash icon to delete it.

New chat (the + in the header) starts a clean conversation. It appears once the current conversation has at least one message. New chats are a good habit when you change subjects. A fresh conversation keeps the assistant focused on the new request instead of dragging along what you were doing an hour ago.

Your plan sets how many saved chats you can keep. At the limit, New chat explains that you’ve reached your plan’s chat limit and asks you to delete an old chat from Recent chats first, and Recent chats shows your count against the limit. Nothing is dropped silently.

When a Reply Is Slow or the Chat Won’t Load

A slow reply. If 45 seconds go by with nothing coming back, the thinking pill is replaced by This is taking longer than usual, with a Try again button. Nothing has failed yet, and the reply may still arrive. You can keep waiting or press Try again to resend your message.

An error. If the assistant can’t be reached, the conversation shows Something went wrong — The assistant is unavailable right now. with a Try again button.

The chat itself won’t load. If Scanz AI crashes or fails to load, the chat area shows Scanz AI couldn’t load with a Reload button, and the rest of the app keeps working. The reload is yours to start, so first save anything you’re in the middle of elsewhere on the page.

What Scanz AI Won’t Do

It doesn’t give trade advice. Scanz AI is there to help you use the platform. It explains what a scan finds and how filters work, but it won’t tell you what to buy or sell or call a trade. That’s the same line Scanz has always drawn (FAQ). Scanz is a tool, not an advisory service.

It doesn’t act without you. Every change to a scan, its settings, its columns or a watchlist goes through a card and a confirm dialog. Reading and answering questions changes nothing.

It can’t edit pre-built scans, and it only offers what your plan includes. When something needs an upgrade, it tells you.

Reaching a Person

If you need a human (an account or billing question, something the docs don’t answer, or anything that isn’t working right), just ask Scanz AI to contact support. It answers whatever it can first, and when that’s not enough it shows a Contact support form in the conversation, pre-filled with a summary of what you need. Edit the message if you like, then send it.

The request goes from your account email, so there’s no name or email to fill in, and the conversation is attached so the team can see what you already tried. In the desktop app the form can also attach a screenshot of your workspace, which you can remove before sending. Once it’s sent you’ll see Message sent, along with the address the team will reply to, usually within 24 hours. If the request doesn’t get through, the form says so, keeps your message, and gives you [email protected] as a fallback.

Tips for Getting Good Results

Say it the way you’d say it to another trader. Keep the numbers, sessions and timeframes in: “up 5% in the last 5 minutes”, “premarket volume over 100K”, “under $10”. Scanz AI carries each qualifier into its own filter. A vague request gets a reasonable default, and that default may not be what you meant.

Read the card’s filter rows, not just the reply. The rows are what will actually be applied. If one isn’t what you meant (wrong session, “from the open” when you meant “from the close”), say so and let it send a corrected card, rather than applying and fixing it by hand.

Open the scan you want changed first. “Change this” works best with the scan in front of you. If you name a different scan of your own, you’ll get Open and change it. With nothing open, a scan card creates a new scan.

Use Create as new scan to experiment. If you’re not sure a change will improve your scan, make a copy with the change instead of overwriting the original, and compare them side by side.

Start a new chat when you change subjects. Long conversations that jump from news scans to watchlists to filter questions are harder to follow, for you and for the assistant.

Troubleshooting

I don’t see the Chat tab or the Scanz AI button. Scanz AI is rolling out in beta and hasn’t reached every account yet. On a phone, look for the floating sparkle button instead, since the sidebar isn’t shown at phone width.

The card says “That’s a pre-built scan.” Pre-built scans can’t be edited. Duplicate it (see the Discover guide) or open one of your own scans, then ask again.

The card says the change is for a scan that isn’t open. Press Open and change it to open that scan and continue to the confirm.

New chat won’t start a conversation. You’re at your plan’s chat limit. Delete an old conversation from Recent chats and try again.

The reply never arrives. After 45 seconds you’ll get Try again. If you see Scanz AI couldn’t load, press Reload.

On desktop, the chat is talking about the wrong scan. Check the linked scan named in the chat window’s header and use its picker to move the link, or click the Scanz AI button in the title bar of the scanner window you want.

Some filters or symbols didn’t go through. The card says how many couldn’t be applied, and the watchlist card flags symbols it couldn’t find. Ask the assistant what was left out, and it can usually suggest a filter or symbol that will work.
