Discover
Browse ready-made data scans, signal scans, news scans, and watchlists in Discover, then copy one into your own list with Use template and edit it freely.
Discover is the template library inside Scanz 4. It holds ready-made data scans, signal scans, news scans, and watchlists for common trading styles - gappers, momentum, squeezes, catalysts, sectors, and more. Pick one, click Use template, and you have your own editable copy running in seconds instead of building every filter from scratch.
Come here when you’re setting up Scanz for the first time, or when you want a proven starting point for a new setup. Once a copy is running, you edit it, scan with it, and send the names you like to a watchlist.
Opening Discover
- Web: click Discover at the top of the left sidebar, above the Scan and Track sections.
- Desktop: click Discover in the launcher. It opens in its own window.
- From a scanner or watchlist with nothing saved yet: the getting-started card on an empty Data Scanner, Signal Scanner, News Scanner, or Watchlists screen has a Start with a template button. It opens Discover on that library. An empty scan picker also shows a Browse templates in Discover link.
The page has a search box at the top right, a Templates for menu to switch libraries, a row of category tabs, and a grid of template cards.
The four libraries
Use the Templates for menu to switch between libraries. Each library has its own categories, shown as tabs above the cards. Choose All to see every category in the library.

Searching
The search box filters the cards in the library you’re viewing by template name and description. If nothing matches, Discover says so - try a different keyword or category, or switch to another library.
What a template card shows
Each card shows the template’s name and a one-line description, with a Use template button at the bottom.
- Scan, signal, and news cards show direction (Long, Short, or Either), timeframe, and session. Either means the template has no long or short bias.
- Watchlist cards show the number of tickers, the type of list, and a sample of the first few tickers.
Reading a template’s details
Click anywhere on a card (except Use template) to open its details window. Read it before you copy - it tells you exactly what the template does.
For a scan, signal, or news template, the details window shows:
- Direction, timeframe, session, and universe - who the template is built for and when it works best
- What it finds - a short plain-English description
- The exact rules - every filter or condition in the template, with its value. The window notes that all of these rules land in your copy so you can edit any of them.
- When + selectivity - when the template runs, and how selective it is: Broad, Focused, or Highly selective, with a note on how many names to expect
- How traders use it - a few ways traders put it to work
For a watchlist, the details window shows how many tickers it holds, what’s in it, how traders use it, and every ticker in the list.
Click Close to leave without copying, or Use template to copy it.
Using a template
- Open Discover and choose a library with Templates for.
- Browse or search, then click Use template on a card - or open the card and click Use template in the details window.
- Scanz copies the template into your own list and opens the copy.
Where the copy lands depends on the library:
| Library | Copy lands in |
|---|---|
| Data Scanner | My Scans |
| Signal Scanner | My Signals |
| News Scanner | My News |
| Watchlists | My WatchLists |
The details window footer reminds you of this with a line like “Copies to My Scans - yours to edit.”
On web, the copy opens in place of Discover. On desktop, the copy opens in a new window, so Discover stays open for the next template. For a data scan, the filters panel opens expanded so you can see the editable rows straight away.
Naming your copy
A scan, signal, or news copy is named after the template with “(copy)” added, for example “High % Gainers (copy)”. Use the same template again and Scanz numbers the next one: “(copy 2)”, “(copy 3)”, and so on.
A watchlist copy keeps the list’s own name, for example “S&P 500”. If you already have a list with that name, the copy follows the same “(copy)” naming as scans.
Editing your copy
Your copy is a normal saved item. Change any filter, condition, or ticker, rename it, or delete it - none of that touches the original template. Templates themselves are read-only and stay in Discover, so you can copy one again if you want a fresh start.
This is also why a pre-built scan can’t be edited directly: you copy it from Discover first, then edit the copy. See Data Scanner for how to work with filters.
If nothing is copied
- You’ve reached your plan’s limit for saved scans, signals, news scans, or watchlists. Scanz shows the upgrade prompt instead of copying.
- Something went wrong. You’ll see a message that Scanz couldn’t use the template and to try again in a moment.
Which template should I start with?
Start broad, then narrow in your own copy.
- To see what’s moving all day: Top Gainers in Market Pulse is a broad, market-wide gainers board with a liquidity floor. Most Liquid in the same category ranks the most actively traded names.
- To find strong intraday movers: High % Gainers in Momentum shows names up 10%+ in the regular session on above-average volume. It’s a focused list, usually a couple dozen names.
- To build a pre-market watchlist: Pre-Market Gappers in Gaps shows names gapping up 3%+ before the open with pre-market volume behind them.
- To catch breaks as they happen: HOD Break - Momentum in Momentum Signals fires each time a qualifying stock breaks its high of day.
- To follow catalysts: Earnings in the News Scanner’s Catalysts category streams earnings headlines as they cross.
- To track a market or sector: S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, and Dow 30 under Indexes, or a sector list such as Microchips or Oil and Energy.
Not sure which fits? Open the card, read The exact rules and When + selectivity, and compare them to how you trade.
